Petroleum ministry rejects 26-31% ethanol claims in Karnataka petrol
India
Heard the buzz about too much ethanol in Karnataka's gasoline? The Petroleum ministry says it's not true.
After testing 56 samples across the state, they found ethanol levels safely within the E20 limit (that's 19-20%), not the 26-31% some reports claimed.
Petroleum ministry: E20 meets IS 17021
The ministry also reassured everyone that E20 gasoline from major fuel companies meets IS 17021, the Bureau of Indian Standards specification for ethanol-blended motor gasoline.
They checked 893 samples from across 27 states and Union territories and found everything up to spec.
Meanwhile, oil companies want more joint and independent testing just to be sure, so expect more checks ahead.
