PM Modi to open massive ₹10,600cr fertilizer plant in Assam
India
Prime Minister Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for a new ₹10,600 crore ammonia-urea plant in Namrup, Dibrugarh on December 21.
Built by Assam Valley Fertiliser and Chemical Company Ltd (AVFCCL)—a fresh joint venture started this year—the facility aims to ramp up local fertilizer production.
Why should you care?
This plant will boost urea output by 12.5 lakh tons a year, helping farmers in Assam and nearby states get better access to fertilizers while cutting down on imports.
It's also expected to create new jobs and turn Namrup into a key fertilizer hub—just as the state heads toward its next big elections.
For the Northeast, which has relied on one aging fertilizer producer since 1969, this marks a pretty big upgrade.
