Police summon Ashutosh Chatterjee after protest over Dhirendra Krishna Shastri
West Bengal Congress general secretary Ashutosh Chatterjee has been called in by police after a protest against preacher Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, who upset many by criticizing Bengali food habits during Durga Puja.
During the September 8 demonstration outside the Bhawanipur police station in south Kolkata, a photograph of Shastri was allegedly trampled upon, struck with footwear and burnt, police said, leading to one arrest and a summons for Ashutosh Chatterjee.
Chatterjee and Adhikari respond to protest
Chatterjee questioned why no action was taken against Shastri himself, asking, "Is it because he is a darling of the BJP?"
He stressed that Congress won't tolerate insults to Bengali culture.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari condemned both the remarks and the photo burning, making it clear that disrespect on either side isn't okay.
