President Murmu says India can eliminate sickle cell before 2047
President Droupadi Murmu believes India can get rid of sickle cell disease even before the official 2047 target.
Speaking at a World Sickle Cell Day event in Madhya Pradesh, she called for more teamwork and awareness to tackle this genetic blood disorder, which hits tribal communities especially hard.

President Droupadi Murmu highlighted that sickle cell disease is treatable and urged states to step up efforts.
"Efforts should be made to eradicate it completely because treatment is possible. This disease can be eliminated. Such a claim has come to light," she said.
World Sickle Cell Day (June 19) is all about spreading the word, encouraging screenings, and making treatment easier to access, key steps if India wants to reach its goal ahead of schedule.
