Priest and others charged for disrespecting women at Srivilliputtur temple

At the Periya Mariamman Temple in Srivilliputtur, a priest and three others have been booked for allegedly spraying holy ash on women devotees' faces and performing obscene dances during a temple event.
The accused—assistant priest M. Gomathivinayagam, Vinod, Ganesan, and local resident H. Sabarinathan—are facing charges for outraging women's modesty, using abusive language, and sharing videos of their actions online.

Videos of the incident went viral

The incident blew up after videos went viral on social media, sparking public outrage. Police registered cases based on a complaint from advocate G. Pandiarajan.
Meanwhile, one of the accused claimed he was assaulted over the viral video and filed his own complaint.
Police are now investigating both the original offenses and the assault claim.
