Private Tiruppur-Coimbatore bus crashes into Neelambur flyover wall, 24 injured
A private bus headed from Tiruppur to Coimbatore crashed into a flyover wall at Neelambur early Friday, flipping over and injuring 24 people, many of them college students on their way to class.
The accident happened around 7:15am leaving several passengers shaken.
Driver and conductor arrested, case registered
Police and fire crews arrived fast, managing diesel leaks and getting the injured passengers to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The crash blocked traffic toward Coimbatore along the busy Salem-Kochi Highway for over two hours while cranes cleared the overturned bus.
Out of 44 people on board, most escaped serious harm. Authorities have since arrested the driver and conductor after police said negligent driving by the driver led to the accident, and registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.
