Punjab Police bring back Gurwinder Singh 'Afridi' from Ethiopia
Punjab Police just pulled off a major win by bringing back Gurwinder Singh, also known as Afridi (a notorious gangster), from Ethiopia.
This comes after a 10-month international hunt called Operation Shaheed, where the Anti-Gangster Task Force teamed up with central agencies to track him down.
Afridi was detained in Ethiopia on November 6, 2026, and landed in India this week.
Afridi linked to over 30 cases
Afridi isn't just any criminal: he's linked to over 30 cases, including murder and extortion, as a key kingpin of the Doni Bal-Prabh Dassuwal gang.
Even while living abroad, he was allegedly running operations back in Punjab.
The hunt for him stretched across several countries, with support from the Ministry of External Affairs and other central agencies.
This is reportedly the first time Punjab Police has managed to bring back someone from Africa, a pretty big milestone in their fight against organized crime.
