Punjab records 3,100+ stubble fires, worsening Delhi NCR air
India
Punjab has reported over 3,100 stubble burning incidents this season, with Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Sangrur leading the numbers.
These fires are a big reason why air pollution is getting worse in Delhi NCR right now.
Punjab fines 54.55L, files 795 FIRs
To fight this, the Punjab government has fined offenders ₹54.55 lakh and already recovered more than half.
They have also filed 795 FIRs and marked 931 farmers' land records with "red entries," which can block access to loans or selling land.
It is all part of a push to curb burning fields after harvest and help clean up the air.
