Pushpendra Singh carries Neelu Raja to Panna hearing seeking rations
India
Pushpendra Singh carried his disabled wife, Neelu Raja, on his back to a government hearing in Panna, Madhya Pradesh, hoping for help after 10 years without proper ration benefits.
Neelu says officials downgraded their Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) card (meant for the poorest families) to a regular BPL card without her knowledge.
Panna collector promises ration card fix
Since the downgrade, the family has not received subsidized food grains. Ongoing medical bills for Neelu's kidney treatment and no steady income have made things harder, even affecting their kids' education.
Despite reaching out to multiple officials with no luck, the local collector has now promised to fix their ration card and include them in other welfare schemes.
