PWD minister announces Delhi replacing 93,000 streetlights with smart LEDs
India
Delhi's about to get a serious lighting upgrade: 93,000 old streetlights will be swapped out for energy-saving smart LEDs.
Announced by PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, this ₹473.24 crore project is expected to save the city around ₹300 crore in power bills over five years and make roads safer and brighter.
Dimmable LEDs with central monitoring
The new LEDs will cover 1,400km of city roads and even add 5,000 extra poles to light up dark spots.
These aren't just regular bulbs: they can dim based on weather or need, and every light will be tracked in real-time from a central command center.
Payments to contractors will depend on how well the lights actually work, so there's some accountability built in.
Contracts should be finalized soon!
