Ranjit Das allegedly taken by Bangladeshi nationals at Zero Point
India
Ranjit Das, from Assam's Cachar district, was allegedly taken by Bangladeshi nationals while collecting grass in the Zero Point area, an Indian territory just past the border fence that locals often visit.
His sudden disappearance sparked concern and talk of cross-border tensions among villagers.
Bangladesh Border Guard returned Ranjit Das
Das was handed back to Indian authorities by the Bangladesh Border Guard around 10pm the same day.
Cachar's police chief, Sanjib Kumar Saikia, explained that since Bangladeshi nationals were involved but it happened on Indian soil, the necessary action will have to be taken by their authorities.
The whole episode highlights how everyday life at the border can get complicated, and why cooperation really matters.
