Rapid cleaning teams to be deployed at stations for train hygiene
Indian Railways aims to roll out "rapid cleaning teams" at every 3-4 stations by the end of 2026, aiming to make long train rides a lot more comfortable—especially when it comes to toilet hygiene.
These teams will use portable vacuum cleaners and high-pressure jet machines, with involvement from start-ups, and cleanliness will be closely tracked through frequent monitoring and even a WhatsApp group with senior officials.
Over 1 lakh complaints in 1 year alone
Toilet complaints have been piling up: in 2022-23 alone, over 1 lakh passengers reported water shortages, and a recent audit found that more than 40% of travelers were unhappy with toilet cleanliness.
With these new squads and tech upgrades, Railways hopes to finally fix those persistent issues—and give everyone a cleaner journey.
