Sarina Bibi arrested, allegedly leading attempt to free Jahangir Khan
Sarina Bibi, wife of jailed former Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan, has been arrested for allegedly leading a dramatic attempt to free her husband from police custody in West Bengal.
On June 17, police said she rallied about 400 supporters to storm Falta police station, but security forces, already tipped off, stopped the attack and arrested more than 25 people.
Jahangir Khan caught on extortion charges
Jailed former Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan was caught earlier this month near the India-Nepal border on charges including extortion.
He is known as a controversial figure in local politics and is now at the center of a wider crackdown on alleged criminal networks in Falta.
The investigation into the police station incident is still ongoing, with further arrests not ruled out as authorities try to restore calm.
