Security breach on Indo-Myanmar border raises concerns
India
A big security breach was just discovered along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur's Chandel district—a 150-200 meter stretch of fencing was cut between two border pillars.
This happened on December 2 and is a serious worry for officials trying to stop illegal activities like drug trafficking.
What's behind the breach?
The cut fence is near Changpol, a Kuki-Zo village, where some local communities aren't happy about the fencing because it disrupts their traditional ties.
Assam Rifles have tightened security and started repairs.
Notably, this is already the second such breach in the area this year, so authorities have expressed concern over recurring breaches as they continue working on securing sensitive parts of India's long border with Myanmar.
