Series of earthquakes shake Indian Ocean, tremors reach India

India

On November 27, several earthquakes hit the Indian Ocean, starting with a strong 6.4-magnitude quake at 10:26am (IST), followed by a 5.3-magnitude tremor less than an hour later.
Both were shallow—just 10km deep—which means people nearby felt the shaking more strongly.

Earlier that morning, there was also a smaller 4.8 quake in the same area.
This region has seen major quakes before—including the devastating 2004 tsunami—so these recent shakes are a reminder that it's still pretty active beneath the surface.
