Sikh pilgrims to Hemkund clash with Karnprayag residents, 5 injured
A parking argument near Panch Puliya in Karnprayag, Uttarakhand, got out of hand on Tuesday when a group of Sikh pilgrims heading to Hemkund Sahib clashed with local residents.
The fight left five people hurt: four locals (Prakash Rawat, Sudarshan Kandari, Gajpal Singh, Harendra Singh) and one pilgrim (Manpreet Singh).
One person was seriously injured and had to be moved to another hospital.
Locals block Badrinath Highway
In response, locals blocked the Badrinath National Highway for four hours, causing major traffic jams and leaving hundreds of vehicles, including other pilgrims, stuck.
Police eventually cleared the road after district officials promised action.
Protesters also called for a ban on sharp-edged weapons during pilgrimages to help keep things safer in the future.
