Snow finally returns to Kashmir after weeks of dry weather
Kashmir is set for light to moderate snowfall in the mountains and some rain in the plains from late December 20 through December 21, thanks to a western disturbance.
This ends a six-week dry spell and lines up with the start of Chillai Kalan—the region's coldest, toughest 40 days of winter.
Why does this matter?
Kashmir has seen barely any rain from November 01 to December 09, with just 6mm recorded instead of the usual 43mm. The dryness even sparked forest fires in north Kashmir.
Nights have stayed freezing—think -1.6°C in Srinagar recently.
With snow and icy roads expected, officials are asking travelers to follow advisories as things could get slippery over mountain passes.
Also, foggy mornings are likely until December 19, so stay alert if you're out and about!
