Supreme Court denies doctors' transfer appeal

India

The Supreme Court just told government doctors in Karnataka that they can't avoid being transferred out of Bengaluru, no matter how much they love the city.
The court made it clear: other parts of the state are just as developed, and everyone has to play by the same rules.
The transfer policy stands.

Court's observations

The judges pointed out that doctors aren't the only ones who get transferred—so it wouldn't be fair to make an exception for them.
They also addressed complaints about not having enough time to object or about changes in the final notification, saying it's up to the state to decide how transfers work.

Doctors' plea

Doctors argued they got barely a week to respond when new rules were drafted, and weren't happy that "Greater Bengaluru" was added at the last minute.
But in the end, the court sided with the state and said these kinds of decisions are well within its rights.
