Supreme Court-ordered firecracker ban in Delhi widely flouted by vendors
Delhi's Supreme Court-ordered firecracker ban hasn't really stuck. Vendors were openly selling fireworks across the city, and people set them off well before the allowed hours.
Only certified "green" crackers could be sold at designated locations across Delhi-NCR from November 4 to 6, while their use was restricted to 6am-7am and 8pm-10pm on November 7 and 8, but those rules were widely flouted.
Shahdara police seize over 1,000kg crackers
Police did seize over 1,000kg of illegal firecrackers in Shahdara and set up patrols to catch violators.
Still, one street vendor hid his stock when police approached, and violators often left before police arrived, making action difficult.
Surprise raids and legal action are ongoing, but enforcing the ban is proving tough with so many ignoring the rules.
