Supreme Court steps in as Delhi-NCR chokes on air pollution

India

The Supreme Court will hear a plea on December 17 about Delhi-NCR's severe air pollution.
The plea concerns the enforcement of rules like the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which exist but aren't being enforced properly, and asks for real action to clean up the air.

Why does this matter?

Air quality in Delhi-NCR has hit "severe" levels again, with AQI numbers close to 500 at many locations—basically, that's as bad as it gets.
This kind of pollution isn't just uncomfortable; it poses serious health risks, especially for kids and people working outdoors.
Even with strict measures like banning construction, shifting schools online, and limiting office attendance, the air hasn't improved much.
The Court is now holding regular hearings to push for solutions that actually work.
