Survey reveals opposition to fuel restrictions

India

Delhi is about to ban fuel sales for older cars—diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol ones over 15—starting July 1, 2025, to fight pollution.
But car owners are nearly evenly divided on whether this is a good move.

Survey shows nearly half respondents oppose ban

In a survey of nearly 13,000 people, 49% backed the ban while 44% were against it.
Many who oppose it own well-maintained or low-mileage cars, or diesel vehicles registered for longer but now facing an early fuel cutoff.

How owners plan to tackle fuel cutoff

Most affected owners (62%) say they'll sell their cars outside Delhi or to secondhand buyers.
Others might refuel in nearby NCR cities (16%) or transfer fuel from other vehicles (6%).
The city will use number plate cameras at pumps to enforce the rule.
