Man accused of theft publicly humiliated in Jammu
In Jammu, a man accused of stealing ₹40,000 from a patient's attendant at a hospital in the heart of the city—and injuring him with a knife—was caught by locals.
Instead of waiting for official action, they tied him up, put a shoe garland around his neck, and paraded him on top of a police vehicle.
The accused is said to be a repeat offender and drug addict.

SSP calls police's actions 'unprofessional'
The public humiliation has sparked criticism for breaking legal standards and Supreme Court rules against such treatment.
Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh called the police's actions "unprofessional" and ordered an inquiry led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer.
Authorities say they're committed to upholding the law and will finish their investigation within a week.
