India
Thrissur is tightening up on hygiene after several Shigella infections popped up.
On Tuesday, officials led by Sports Minister O J Janeesh called for stricter food safety and cleaner water.
The Food Safety Department quickly checked 60 spots around the district, finding nine places breaking rules: ice cream, chicken, and packaged milk were all tossed out.
Schools and anganwadis hygiene, super-chlorination
The district is rolling out hygiene programs for kids in schools and anganwadis, making sure kitchen staff have valid health cards.
Local bodies have been told to super-chlorinate water sources, while extra checks are happening at old-age homes and migrant worker camps.
