Tragedy strikes as Air India plane crashes

An Air India Dreamliner headed for London crashed just minutes after leaving Ahmedabad, with 232 passengers and 12 crew on board. The crash happened close to the airport, sending up thick smoke and causing immediate concern in the area.

The plane lost contact with air traffic control at just 625 feet. People nearby heard explosions and saw smoke rising. Emergency teams got there fast, taking several injured passengers to hospital.

This is the 1st major crash involving a Boeing 787

India's Civil Aviation Minister is personally monitoring the situation, highlighting how seriously this is being taken. Notably, this is the first major crash involving a Boeing 787 since it started flying back in 2011.
