UP engineer caught faking it as a cardiologist—thanks to his own sister

India

A 57-year-old engineer, Abhinav Singh, got busted in Uttar Pradesh for pretending to be a heart doctor using his US-based brother-in-law's name and medical degrees.
He managed to work at the Autonomous Government Medical College in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur for nearly three years before his wife, Dr. Sonali Singh, reported him—putting an end to the long-running scam.

How he pulled it off—and what happens next

Singh landed the college job in 2022 through the National Health Mission scheme.
Turns out, this wasn't his first run-in with the law; he'd already had a corruption case registered against him in 1999 while working at Customs and later served time after being arrested in 2019.
After getting out of jail in 2020, he used stolen documents to fake a new identity.
Police are now digging into how much money he made from this fraud and looking into a suspicious arms license tied to him as well.
