UP proposes 10L family cap for Rani Laxmi Bai scheme
The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to add a family income limit of ₹10 lakh for the Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty scheme, which will give scooters to first-year girl students scoring 80% or above at the UG level in state universities and affiliated degree colleges, but 80% and above marks will not be the only criterion.
Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said this move will help make sure the scooters reach those who actually need them.
Scheme could reach 60,000 girls
If approved, about 60,000 girls could get scooters under this scheme, which has a ₹400 crore budget for 2026-27.
On International Women's Day on March 8, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the scheme would be rolled out soon.
Gasoline scooters were picked because they are more affordable, and tenders will be out soon on the GeM portal.
Upadhyay also mentioned that most degree colleges in Uttar Pradesh now have student uniforms, with work ongoing to cover all colleges statewide.
