Uttarakhand group of 19 returns safely after Traill's Pass avalanche
India
A 19-member trekking group had a real scare when an avalanche hit during their descent from the 5,312-meter-high Traill's Pass in Uttarakhand.
After spending 10 days navigating blizzards, deep snow, and tough terrain in the Kumaon region, everyone made it back safely: no injuries, just some shaken nerves.
Historic Traill's Pass draws adventure seekers
Traill's Pass is known as one of India's toughest mountaineering routes, famous for its unpredictable weather and technical challenges.
First crossed way back in 1830 by G.W. Traill, the British Deputy Commissioner of Kumaon, it still draws adventure seekers today.
This team's safe return adds another story to the pass' long history of daring expeditions.
