Weather update for Chhath Puja celebrations in Bengal
India
Heads up if you're celebrating Chhath Puja!
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has flagged a low-pressure system brewing over the Bay of Bengal and south Andaman Sea, which could strengthen in the next few days.
While South Bengal—including Kolkata—should stay dry, North Bengal might get some light showers as the Chhath Puja festivities begin on October 25.
System might turn into depression by October 25
The IMD says this system might turn into a depression by October 25 and could even become a cyclonic storm by October 27, bringing rain and strong winds to coastal areas early next week.
With wind speeds possibly reaching 60km/h, fishermen are being urged not to head out to sea from October 27—and anyone already out there should make it back safely before then.
