West Bengal to recheck around 110,000 doctors' degrees via agency
India
West Bengal is set to recheck the degrees of around 110,000 doctors registered since 1996, after concerns surfaced about some using fake qualifications.
The state's health minister says an external agency will handle this as part of a new "know your doctor" initiative, aiming to keep things smooth for doctors by offering both in-person and video verification.
BJP blames Trinamool, Saugata Roy objects
The move has sparked political back-and-forth: BJP leaders are blaming the ruling Trinamool Congress for earlier lapses, while Trinamool's Saugata Roy questions the premise of subjecting doctors to a special intensive revision (SIR) exercise.
He also points out that doctors haven't faced such intense scrutiny before.
