A fresh controversy erupted in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday after someone from the opposition benches allegedly addressed the chair as "yaar." The incident happened amid a ruckus over Rahul Gandhi's attempt to cite excerpts from former Army chief General MM Naravane's unpublished memoir on the 2020 India-China standoff. Acting Chairman Krishna Prasad Tenneti took strong objection to the remark, calling it unparliamentary and objectionable. He reprimanded Congress lawmakers, saying, "You can't address the Chair as yaar....Take back your words."

Row over 'yaar' comment amid bigger dispute
Like on Monday, chaos consumed the Parliament on Tuesday after Gandhi tried to read out excerpts from Naravane's unpublished book, including sections about the 2020 India-China military standoff in Ladakh. Gandhi had said he wanted to cite passages of the book from an article in Caravan magazine in response to BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, who allegedly "questioned the patriotism" of the Congress. The memoir appeared to suggest indecision on the political leadership's part during the 2020 India-China standoff.

Congress MPs suspended as ruckus continues
However, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had earlier refused permission for Gandhi to raise this issue in Parliament. The ruckus over this issue continued on Tuesday as several opposition MPs, some of whom refused to speak when asked to, protested for not letting Gandhi speak, eventually leading to the Lok Sabha adjourning for the day. Before that, eight MPs were suspended for tearing up papers and throwing them toward the Chair.
