Dispute over road project escalates into violence
According to reports, the dispute was over a road construction project in Kameneri village. Locals said a strip was proposed close to Saroja's house, which she opposed. She argued the road should be constructed on nearby government land instead. The argument escalated into violence, with Arjunan slapping Saroja twice and hitting her with a stick when she defended herself. Arjunan has been a member of several political parties, including AIADMK, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).

Venkatapathy's complaint and public outrage
In a similar incident in September, an elderly man named Venkatapathy was assaulted by a police officer at an 'Ungaludan Stalin' grievance redressal camp in Ranipet district. Venkatapathy had submitted a petition at the camp but claimed he was denied an acknowledgment slip and attacked by a concerned official. He suffered a head injury but returned to seek answers. When police tried to remove him from the camp, one officer was filmed pushing and punching him.
