What's the story

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey has reacted strongly to Mumbai Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Ameet Satam's comments after Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral election. Dubey questioned Satam's mental state after the latter said no "Khan" can be imposed on Mumbai, referring to Muslim Indian-origin leader Mamdani's victory. He even suggested that the Uddhav Sena would cover Satam's treatment at Agra's Pagal Khana.

Political discourse

Only a Marathi Hindu will be Mumbai's mayor: Dubey

"Ameet Satam's mental state has deteriorated. From the day he became president, he realised he was about to be wiped out... That's why he's been making bizarre statements about the mayor of Mumbai from day one...," Dubey said. He also slammed the BJP for its constant "Hindu-Muslim" narrative but ironically asserted that only a Marathi Hindu will be elected as Mumbai's mayor. "The saffron flag will be flown in the municipal elections, and a Marathi Hindu will become...mayor," he said.

Election implications

Satam warns against 'Khan' imposition in Mumbai

BJP leader Satam had earlier warned against attempts to "impose" a Khan on Mumbai after Mamdani's victory. He tweeted, "The way the political colour of some international cities is changing, after seeing the surnames of a few mayors and the 'vote jihad' of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, it feels necessary to stay alert regarding Mumbai..!" Satam further warned, "If anyone tries to impose a 'Khan' on Mumbai, it will not be tolerated! Wake up, Mumbaikars."
