iOS 26.1 now lets you tweak iPhone's Liquid Glass look
What's the story
Apple has rolled out the latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS 26.1. The update brings a number of new features and improvements to enhance user experience. One of the most notable additions is a "Liquid Glass" display toggle that lets you customize your iPhone's translucent design aesthetic. The feature is available under Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass settings menu.
Feature details
Liquid Glass toggle
The Liquid Glass toggle lets users switch between a clear and tinted look for their device's UI. The tinted option slightly reduces opacity across system UI elements like notifications and tab bars, giving a more subdued, frosted-glass feel. This feature is also available on macOS and iPadOS with some subtle differences.
User convenience
Improvements in lock screen controls
The update also improves lock screen controls by allowing users to disable the swipe-to-open Camera shortcut. This will prevent accidental launches of the camera app. The settings for this new feature can be found under Settings > Camera > Lock Screen Swipe to Open Camera. Further, iOS 26.1 expands Apple Intelligence support to more languages including Traditional Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Swedish, Turkish and Vietnamese.
Streaming improvements
Other refinements in iOS 26.1
The update also brings new languages to AirPods Live Translation, including Mandarin (simplified and traditional), Italian, Japanese, and Korean. Apple's streaming service has also been rebranded from "Apple TV+" to just Apple TV with a new app icon. Other refinements include a Local Capture section in Settings for managing audio/file saves, an updated alarm dismissal screen with Slide to Unlock interface, and a new swipe gesture for changing songs in the Music app.
