What's the story

Apple is gearing up for a major refresh of its Mac lineup, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The tech giant plans to introduce new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models powered by its next-generation M5 chip. These devices are expected to hit the market between late 2025 and early 2026. Along with the new laptops, Apple may also unveil two new monitors in this timeframe.

Performance upgrade

New MacBook Pro and Air models

The upcoming MacBook Pro models, codenamed J714 and J716, are likely to get a performance boost from the new M5 chip. However, there won't be any major design changes for the 14-inch and 16-inch versions of these laptops. Apple is also expected to launch two refreshed MacBook Air models (codenamed J813 and J815) around the same time as their Pro counterparts.

Monitor launch

Potential next-generation Studio Display

Along with the new MacBook models, Apple is also expected to launch two new monitors. The first one, codenamed J427, could be a next-generation Studio Display. Rumors suggest it may swap LED backlighting for MiniLED and upgrade its current 5K resolution to a possible 6K or even 7K version. The screen size could also be increased from 27-inch to possibly up to 32-inch.
