    What's the story

According to reports, BlackBerry's upcoming premium smartphone called the "BlackBerry Ghost" will feature a hefty 4,000mAh battery.

This would be among the largest batteries in a flagship-class device. Usually, large batteries are found in mid-tier handsets.

The high-end smartphone will release exclusively in India in a few months. According to the renders, it will have a bezel-less display and an aspect ratio of 18:9.

    Details

BlackBerry Ghost is optimized for privacy, security, and convenience

Earlier, Hardip Singh, Executive Director at BlackBerry's Indian licensee Optiemus, said that the device will not support a QWERTY keypad and will be all touchscreen.

It will have the DTEK app, which monitors device security in real-time, and also feature the BlackBerry Hub, through which users can bring all communication in one place.

The BlackBerry Ghost might be priced at Rs. 39,999.

    Information

    BlackBerry Ghost Pro

According to Singh, the upcoming device will be accompanied by a Ghost Pro version as well which will be a little wider and shorter with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The devices will possibly feature dual rear cameras with low light enhancement and optical zoom.

    Background

BlackBerry has licensed out its phones to Optiemus in India

So this is how it works. BlackBerry has stopped designing and creating phones since 2016, but the company still licenses the brand out so that phones keep coming in its name.

Optiemus is a Noida-based manufacturer and distributor of telecom products.

The two companies had entered a licensing agreement last year, under which Optiemus agreed to make phones with BlackBerry's Android-based security software.

    Information

BlackBerry phones are no stranger to great battery life

Other companies to which BlackBerry frequently licenses out its phones are China's TCL and Indonesia's BB Merah Putih. BlackBerry's recent TCL-made devices like the BlackBerry KEYone and BlackBerry Motion also sport large batteries, and the company is now leveraging this as a major selling point.
