Vivo Y53i with 8MP camera, face-unlock launched at Rs. 7,990

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has launched a new budget smartphone in India. Coming in as a successor to the Vivo Y53, the company has launched Y53i with a 'Made in India' branding. Notably, the Vivo Y53i comes at Rs. 7,990 and takes on the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 5 that was launched in India last month. Here's our Vivo Y53i roundup.

Design & Display
At a glance

In terms of design, you see thick top and bottom bezels on the front while the rear panel holds a single primary camera. The phone lacks a fingerprint sensor and relies solely on its Face Access technology for unlocking the device. The dual-SIM Vivo Y53i features a 5-inch (540x960 pixels) qHD IPS display and comes in Crown Gold and Matte Black color variants.

Camera & more
The Y53i gets face unlock and Ultra HD camera tech

Vivo is offering Face Access technology - the company's name for Face Unlock - that uses the front camera to securely unlock your phone. In terms of optics, the smartphone bears an 8-megapixel rear sensor with an LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera. Moreover, Vivo is touting its Ultra-HD camera technology that combines 4 images to create a single image of 32MP resolution.

Information
The smartphone comes with Eye Protection and App Clone features

The Vivo Y53i will also feature an Eye Protection mode that filters out blue light by adjusting the color temperature of the display. Moreover, the smartphone also gets App Clone feature that allows you to have one or more copies of an app.

Internals, Storage
Under the hood

The Vivo Y53i is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC processor, paired with Adreno 308 GPU and 2GB RAM. In terms of storage, you get 16GB inbuilt storage which is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. The phone runs FunTouch OS 3.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is expected to pack a 2,500 mAh battery.

Competition
How Redmi 5 fares against the specs of Vivo Y53i

Compared to Vivo Y53i, Redmi 5 (Rs. 7,990 onwards) has a clear upper hand when it comes to features and specs. The dual-SIM (Nano) Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and is powered by a Snapdragon 450 SoC processor. You also get up to 4GB RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie shooter, and a 3,300mAh battery.
