Any cricketer who has Adam Gilchrist and Mahendra Singh Dhoni as their idols is bound to play a certain brand of cricket. And, Indian player Ishan Kishan is not an exception to that rule. An explosive wicketkeeper-batsman hailing from Jharkhand, Kishan is the first noteworthy player since Dhoni from the state to grab the attention of a cricket frenzy nation. He made his first-class debut for Jharkhand in 2014. His impressive domestic performances led to him being named in the India A team. In the 2016 U-19 World Cup, despite not having an impressive performance himself, Kishan led the team to the final. In the 2016-17 Ranji season, however, he turned around his batting fortunes and scored 799 runs including a mammoth 273 against Delhi. Kishan's domestic performances made him a target of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. In 2016, he made his IPL debut for the now-defunct Gujarat Lions. He was later bought by Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2018 IPL season. In the 2020 IPL, he led the scoring charts for Mumbai. Impressive domestic and IPL form led to him being called up to the Indian team. Kishan made both his T20I and ODI debuts in 2021.
