IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals may shift base to Pune
What's the story
The Rajasthan Royals (RR) may move their base to Pune for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, according to Cricbuzz. The potential relocation comes after a fallout with an official from the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). While the final decision rests with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it is subject to approval from Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA).

RR management explores new base in Pune
The Rajasthan Royals management has started looking for a new base, with the MCA Stadium in Gahunje, Pune being one of the options. Preliminary talks have already been held between MCA and RR officials. A team from the franchise recently visited Pune to evaluate stadium facilities, hotels, airport connectivity and other logistical considerations.
Conflict reasons
Royals's relocation driven by issues with RCA
The Royals's push to relocate is being driven by apparent issues with the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). The situation escalated last season when an RCA official accused the team of match-fixing—an allegation that the Royals vehemently denied and demanded strict action against the individual. If Gahunje Stadium is finalized, RR will play at least four home games there, while three others are likely to be held in Guwahati.

MCA Stadium's IPL hosting history
The MCA Stadium in Pune has not hosted an IPL match since 2022. The last game at this venue was played in 2022 when the tournament was held across three venues in Mumbai and Pune, apart from playoffs in Kolkata and Ahmedabad. An MCA official confirmed that RR's team had visited to learn about stadium capacity, pitch conditions, and city hotels.
Decision pending
MCA's dilemma over RR and RCB
The MCA is now faced with a dilemma: accept the Royals's proposal or wait for a response from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The latter has shown interest in hosting their home games elsewhere after the tragic stampede on June 4. However, there is no guarantee that they will relocate, as any such decision will depend on various factors.
