What's the story

Hosts Russia have named their final 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Head coach Stanislav Cherchesov has left out 6 players from the provisional list. Most expensive Russian football player of all-time former Chelsea player Yuri Zhirkov, CSKA Moscow's Russian core Igor Akinfeev, Alan Dzagoev and Aleksandr Golovin and Krasnodar striker Fedor Smolov have all been named in the squad.

38-year-old veteran defender Sergei Ignashevich has been included in the squad. With 121 caps, he is Russia's most experienced player at the World Cup. Villarreal's Denis Cheryshev has recovered from an injury, in time, to make it to the squad. The former Real Madrid winger is one of their most talented players in the squad.

Goal-keepers: Igor Akinfeev, Vladimir Gabulov and Andrey Lunev. Defenders: Vladimir Granat, Fedor Kudryashov, Ilya Kutepov, Andrey Semenov , Igor Smolnikov, Mario Fernandes and Sergei Ignashevich. Mid-fielders: Yuri Gazinskiy, Alan Dzagoev, Aleksandr Golovin, Aleksandr Erokhin, Yuri Zhirkov, Daler Kuzyaev, Roman Zobnin, Aleksandr Samedov, Anton Miranchuk and Denis Cheryshev. Forwards: Artem Dzyuba, Alexsey Miranchuk and Fedor Smolov.
