    Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal has been eliminated from the Winston-Salem Open after losing his first-round match.

    This ATP 250 event saw Nagal face a straight-set defeat to Borna Coric in the opening round.

    The match, which lasted an hour and 10 minutes, ended with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-2 in favor of Coric.

    Notably, Nagal converted his only break point of the match.

    Coric won a total of 57 points and 12 games throughout the match. He served seven aces compared to the Indian's three.

    Nagal's serve was broken as many as four times by Coric. This contributed to Nagal's early exit from the tournament.

    Nagal had a win percentage of 89 and 58 in the first and second serves. Coric won maximum four games in a row.

    Olympics

    First-round defeat at Paris Games

    Nagal was coming off a first-round defeat to Frenchman Corentin Moutet at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

    Moutet defeated Nagal 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 in two hours and 28 minutes at Roland Garros.

    The men's doubles pair of N Sriram Balaji and Rohan Bopanna also suffered a similar fate. They were knocked out in the first round.

    Participation

    Suresh to compete in doubles draw

    In other news from the Winston-Salem Open, Dhakshineswar Suresh, the former national junior champion, is set to compete in the doubles draw.

    He will be partnering with British player Luca Pow for this event.

    However, Suresh was unable to reach the singles main draw after losing 3-6, 4-6 in the qualifying event (second round) to American fourth seed Learner Tien.
