Gaza airstrikes kill 4-year-old boy, injure others
What's the story
On Sunday, two Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least two people, including a four-year-old boy. The strikes also left seven others injured, Palestinian health officials reported. One of the attacks targeted a building in Zawayda town after the Israeli army had warned the property's owners to evacuate. The second strike hit the nearby Nuseirat refugee camp.
Ongoing investigation
Israeli military probing both airstrikes
The Israeli military is currently investigating both airstrikes.
The attacks come after Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of escalating targeted strikes against those launching drones, balloons, and kites from Gaza.
This warning was issued after a meeting with senior defense officials over the threat posed by these aerial launches.
Accusations exchanged
Hamas accuses Israel of violating US-backed ceasefire agreement
Hamas has accused Israel of using children's kites as an excuse to escalate attacks on Gaza.
The group also claimed that the Israeli military had violated a US-backed ceasefire agreement from October 2025, which aimed to stop major fighting in the region.
Since this ceasefire came into effect, over 1,280 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza according to Gazan health officials.
Rising tensions
Violence spreads to West Bank
The violence has also spilled over into the West Bank, where an Israeli man was stabbed by a suspected Palestinian attacker.
In another incident, Israeli forces shot and killed a 14-year-old boy during a raid in Askar refugee camp near Nablus.
The West Bank has witnessed increased settler violence and land seizures, which are viewed as illegal under international law by most countries and UN bodies, although Israel disputes this, citing biblical ties to the land.
