Jaishankar meets Putin, discusses expanding India-Russia ties

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on Monday. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation in key sectors such as trade, energy, fertilizers, and nuclear cooperation. Jaishankar highlighted that economic cooperation between India and Russia has grown "very significantly." He also conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's greetings to Putin and handed over a personal communication from the Indian leader.

Jaishankar co-chairs India-Russia inter-governmental commission meeting
Jaishankar also co-chaired the 27th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.
The commission's meeting gave a positive assessment of bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, Jaishankar is slated to meet his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to discuss regional and global issues.

Visit ahead of Putin's participation in BRICS summit in Delhi
Jaishankar emphasized that the India-Russia partnership has always been resilient and adaptable. He said, "Even amidst a complex international landscape, our engagement has continued to deepen."
The visit comes ahead of Putin's expected trip to New Delhi for the BRICS leaders' summit on September 12-13.
The meeting is significant as both countries look to strengthen economic ties and expand cooperation in various sectors.
