BS6-compliant Royal Enfield Himalayan to be launched in January: Report

Royal Enfield, India's popular two-wheeler manufacturer, is gearing up to launch the BS6-compliant edition of the Himalayan bike in 2020, according to Overdrive. Reportedly, the off-road motorcycle will also get a couple of new features including a hazard switch (which turns on the indicator lights) as well as a switchable ABS for improved riding. Here's our roundup.

Royal Enfield Himalayan: At a glance

The upcoming bike is likely to retain the design of the outgoing model. Hence, it is expected to offer a naked street design with a slightly stepped-up seat, an upswept exhaust, and a rounded headlamp as well as mirrors. Besides that, it will house off-road friendly elements such as hazard switch that turns on both indicators, side panniers, off-road friendly tires, and spoked wheels.

    Power and performance

The details about the engine of the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan bike are not known yet. However, the automaker will update the existing 410cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine to meet the emission norms. In its present state of tune, this unit churns out 24.83PS of power at 6,500rpm and 32Nm of peak torque at 4,500rpm.

What about safety and suspension setup?

On the safety front, the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan bike will come equipped with disc brakes on both wheels, along with switchable ABS which turns off the ABS for rear wheel, offering an improved off-roading experience. To handle suspension duties, the motorcycle is likely to house telescopic forks up front and a mono-shock absorber on the rear.

    And, what about pricing?

There is no official word on the pricing of the BS6-compliant Royal Enfield Himalayan bike as of now. However, we expect it to carry a little premium over the outgoing model which is available at a starting price of Rs. 1.66 lakh.
