EV chargers get cheaper by up to 28% in India
Big news for anyone eyeing an electric vehicle: the Indian government has revised benchmark prices for EV chargers, with reported cuts of about 13%-28% for different charger types.
Now, a standard charger is capped at ₹6 lakh, with bigger ones going up to ₹24 lakh.
The draft lists a ₹1.5 lakh benchmark for two/three-wheeler stations—making it much easier (and hopefully faster) to get charging spots built.
EVs are outpacing the number of public chargers
The EV charging market is booming—EV penetration rose to nearly 4.7% in FY24, and public chargers are popping up everywhere.
But here's the catch: as more people buy electric cars, there still aren't enough chargers around.
Data show EV registrations are outpacing the growth of public chargers.
The hope? Lower prices will help speed up new installations and close that gap for good.
