France builds world's 1st wireless charging highway

Auto

France has rolled out the world's first public highway that wirelessly charges electric vehicles (EVs) while they're moving.
This 1.5km stretch on the A10, near Paris, can top up cars, busses, and heavy-duty trucks.
Built by Electreon and verified by Gustave Eiffel University, it's set to go live.

The road uses copper coils under the asphalt

The highway uses copper coils under the road to create a magnetic field—cars with special receivers pick up the charge as they drive over.
It delivers over 200kW of power (even more than Tesla's V3 Superchargers), works in any weather, and has zero moving parts.

France plans to build 9,000km of these roads by 2035

This is just the start: France wants to build 9,000km of wireless charging roads by 2035.
The main goal is to make heavy-duty transport cleaner and cut emissions using dynamic inductive charging—basically letting vehicles charge on the move without stopping.

Charging on the go could transform electric vehicle experience

Charging while driving means smaller batteries are needed and less time wasted at charging stations.
For both commuters and commercial drivers, it could make long trips way easier—and might just change how we think about electric travel in the future.
