These new mid-size SUVs will debut in India in 2026
What's the story
The midsize SUV segment in India is set to heat up in 2026, with a slew of new models. This comes after the launch of Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Tata Sierra in 2025. The upcoming year will see multiple facelifts, a new-generation model, and the return of the Renault Duster, a popular nameplate. Here's a look at some of the key players expected to hit Indian roads next year.
Model details
Next-gen Kia Seltos: A blend of innovation and tradition
The next-gen Kia Seltos will debut on January 2, 2026. The new model is based on a fresh K3 platform, making it longer, wider, and more spacious than its predecessor. It features a completely new exterior and interior design with dual 12.3-inch displays, a five-inch AC control display, and a powered driver's seat with memory function. However, the engine options remain unchanged: a 115hp 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol, a 160hp 1.5-liter turbo-petrol, and a 116hp 1.5-liter diesel.
Upcoming launch
Mahindra XUV 7XO: A tech-savvy SUV
The Mahindra XUV 7XO, a facelifted version of the flagship XUV700, will be unveiled on January 5. It will feature a triple-screen setup like the XEV 9e and XEV 9S. Other features include an electric boss mode, panoramic sunroof, and customizable ambient lighting. The SUV is likely to continue with its current engine options: a 2-liter turbo-petrol and a 2.2-liter diesel, with AWD likely remaining an option for the diesel variant.
Model revival
Renault Duster's comeback
The Renault Duster, which was discontinued in early 2022, will return to India on January 26 in its third-generation avatar. The India-spec model is expected to get a more premium look and feel. While the powertrain details are still under wraps, it is likely that Renault will offer it with a turbo-petrol engine like the one used in Kiger's lower variants.
New entrant
Nissan Tekton: A rival to Renault Duster
After the Duster's debut, Nissan is likely to unveil its rival, the Tekton. The design of the Tekton borrows heavily from Nissan's flagship Patrol SUV. It features a similar front grille, C-shaped LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), and connected LED tail-lights. The interior boasts a dual-tone cabin theme with gloss-black trim on the center of the dashboard and copper-colored insert. Engine options are still unknown but are expected to be similar to those of Renault's Duster.
Facelifted model
Skoda Kushaq (facelift): A refreshed look
The Skoda Kushaq, which has been on sale in India since 2022, will get an updated version in the first quarter of 2026. Spy shots suggest a new front fascia with full-width LED light bars and a redesigned bumper. The rear is also expected to get a similar treatment. The update will likely include features like ADAS and a 360-degree camera, while engine options are expected to remain unchanged.
Upcoming updates
Volkswagen Taigun (facelift) and Honda Elevate (facelift)
The Volkswagen Taigun, a sibling of the Skoda Kushaq, will also get a mid-cycle update in 2026. The update will likely include exterior and interior design revisions as well as new features such as ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera. It is expected to continue with its current engine options: turbo-petrol (1-liter) and turbo-petrol (1.5-liter). The Honda Elevate, launched in September 2023, is also likely to get a facelift in 2026 with updated features and design.
