Traffic penalties to go cashless in Bengaluru
What's the story
The Bengaluru traffic police is spending Rs. 10crore in order to enable cashless-payment of penalties. This would be done with the help of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA), where violators can swipe cards and collect their receipts. 75 PDAs have been procured, 12 of which have been sent to 6 police stations to be used on a trial-basis. Bengaluru could face water crisis in absence of summer rains
Without summer showers in Karnataka, TN will not receive any water from the Cauvery, and Bengaluru residents will fall short of the needed water supply. Chairman of the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Tushar Girinath said in the event of no rains in April-May, BWSSB would have to bring down the water supply from once in two days to once in three days.

Karnataka cattle catch foot and mouth disease
There has been an outbreak of the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in the cattle and other hooved livestock in Karnataka. 11 districts of the state have been affected by this and the lives of 10 cattle have already been claimed. Karnataka is now under pressure to shut down two 'goshalas' to curb the spread of the disease, which is threatening to affect milk-production.

CISF jawans move High Court for harassment
Over 200 personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployed at Kempegowda International Airport are seeking legal aid from the Karnataka HC on the grounds of alleged harassment. Their allegations include difficult working conditions, poor quality of food, non-payment of allowances and harassment by seniors. The decision to move court came after raising numerous internal complaints as well as writing to the PMO.

Vegetables may cost more due to truckers' strike
The ongoing truckers' strike in South India has entered its fourth day today (Monday). Prices of some vegetables have dipped, whereas other vegetables are costing more as there is shortage of supply of the vegetables coming to the city. Currently, vans and tempos have taken up transporting of vegetables. However, they are unequipped for inter-state deliveries and may not continue in the near future.

BMRCL begins demolition of property for Metro
Work for the Metro line between Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield has commenced as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited has begun the decimation of properties for the same. More than 270 properties have been short-listed for demolition for the 15.5km stretch of the elevated Metro line. A deadline of 2020 has been given by the BMRCL for the Phase-II project, spanning across 75 kilometres.
