    IIM-Bengaluru slips down one rank, second to IIM-Ahmedabad

    What's the story

    The India rankings 2017 survey under the National Institutional Ranking Framework considered more than 3,300 institutes across 20 parameters.

    According to the survey, the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru (IIM-B) is now second after IIM-Ahmedabad.

    According to the report, IIM-B has seen a decline in the number of its sponsored research projects.

    Karnataka warned to take H1N1 symptoms seriously

    The Health Department of Karnataka issued a notice asking residents to be wary about the symptoms of H1N1 virus.

    In case people cannot see doctors, they've been advised to call emergency services.

    Data from the Karnataka Health and Family Department states that the state has already recorded 618 cases of swine flu till the first week of March.

    Congress stands victorious in Karnataka by-polls

    Counting for the Nanjangud and Gundlupet assembly by-polls, carried out today (Thursday), revealed that the Congress had a sweeping victory in both the constituencies.

    In Nanjangud, Kalale Krishnamurthy of Congress defeated BJP's Prasad by a total of 21,334 votes.

    Congress's Geetha Mahadev from Gundlupet surpassed BJP's C S Niranjan Kumar by 10,887 votes.

    Both Congress candidates were leading right from the start.

    80 newborn babies treated for dehydration

    Rising mercury levels in the state of Karnataka are taking a toll on the health of newly born children; 80 newborn babies have already been treated for dehydration in Ballari.

    According to Skymetweather, the temperature in Ballari is expected to rise up to 41 degrees Celsius.

    12 babies suffering from dehydration were admitted to the Vijaynagar Institute of Medical Sciences on Wednesday itself.

    BMTC drops fares for short-distances and AC buses

    The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Thursday announced its new tariffs.

    Tariff for the second stage of travel (2-4 kms) has been reduced to Rs. 10 from Rs.12 for non-air conditioned buses.

    For air conditioned buses, fares for the first stage (2 kms) have been reduced to Rs. 10 from Rs. 15; stages 3 and 4, too, will be cheaper by Rs. 6

    Education

    Government teachers say no to summer camps for school children

    The Education Department may initiate the Swalpa Odu Swalpa Moju programme this summer for students of Classes 4,5 and 6 to improve their literacy and numeracy.

    Teachers, however, want the department to conduct remedial classes in June, when the weather would be much better.

    They also feel that summer vacations are meant for teachers to take a break from studies and relax.
