55 Chinese users sue Apple over App Store pricing

Business

Fifty-five iPhone and iPad users in China have filed an antitrust complaint against Apple, saying its App Store is too restrictive and charges high fees.
Led by lawyer Wang Qiongfei, the group submitted their case to China's State Administration for Market Regulation on Monday, arguing that Apple's rules limit competition and force users to pay up to 30% in commissions.

Case part of global pushback against Apple's App Store policies

The group points out that Apple has allowed more app store choices and payment options in the US and EU, but not in China.
This complaint is part of a global pushback against Apple's App Store policies and comes as China ramps up tech regulation.
If the case succeeds, some analysts believe it could lead to lower prices for Chinese users and more freedom for app developers, and may increase pressure on Apple to treat all markets consistently.
