Speaking at the "Celebrating Piyush" event, Goyal narrated how Pandey initially declined to take up the branding assignment for Narendra Modi's campaign. However, he later accepted it after realizing its importance for the nation.

Goyal shared that he spent seven hours with Pandey, but the latter kept refusing to take up the project. However, the next morning, Pandey called him back, saying, "Yeh desh ki zaroorat hai." Goyal said this was unusual as he never took up political campaigns but accepted this one as a responsibility for the country.

Goyal praised Pandey for his simple yet powerful communication skills. He said, "He could connect with the common man, brief, simple, to the point. A very big message in just four words." The minister emphasized that despite being behind one of India's most iconic political slogans, Pandey never took credit for it. "Others claimed to have written it, but he never said a word. That was his humility," Goyal added.
